Are there prerequisites that need to be done before the first night? No, the syllabus is available on resource one after you make a free account. The password will be sent to you before class begins.
Is there an age restriction? You must be 18 years or older
What are the physical requirements? Firefighting is a physically demanding career. You will be required to do at least three days of physical fitness training per week, documenting what it done.
What is CPAT and do you have to have this certification before I enter class? CPAT- candidate physical assessment test is physical test that many departments require. The FF I/II program at ESEC does not require this.
Are there weekends involved in the training? Yes, there are approximately 4-5 Saturdays required in the class. These days cannot be made up and must be attended. On the syllabus they will be in bold print.
What happens if I have to miss a class? It is best if you do not miss any. If you must miss a class, and they are not on a Saturday class, it can be made up. Saturday classes cannot be made up.
What do we wear to class? Wear something comfortable, like business casual. NO SHORTS, TANK TOPS, OR FLIPFLOPS. Cargo pants are to be worn. Shirts will be provided.
Do I need to purchase the uniform shirt prior to class? Shirt sizes will be taken on day one, shirts will be ordered and delivered once they are obtained.
Do I need to bring a computer with me? Yes, if you choose to take notes that way. Otherwise computers only need to brought on testing days, listed on the syllabus.
Do I need to do anything before the class begins? Why do I have to Register with the State? Most classes have you register online to develop a roster for the instructor.
What is an Acadis number? This is a State Identification number to allow registration for classes and holds your certifications under your name and number. Employers also verify your training completions and certifications.
Do I need to have experience? No. This is a start in the fire service.
Does this FF course certification transfer to other states? Indiana is a National Registry state. If you choose to move from or to different states, you can go to the NREMT web page and see if that state is transferable. You would need to contact that particular state's FF rules to see how you become certified within the state. Yes, in a way. You must request and pay for, to the state of Indiana an IFSAC accreditation. The fee is listed on the state website, it is not something that ESEC will do for you.
Do you help with job placement after I pass the course? You should approach each class day in the FF program as an interview. We have many instructors from area departments that are adjunct instructors. This will serve you best as you search for a career department. ESEC will not place you on a department.
Do I need this course to become a firefighter? Yes, it is a requirement of the state of Indiana that firefighters hold the hazmat awareness, hazmat operations, FFI, and FFII certifications. All of those will be offered in this class.
Do I need CPR certification before I start the class? No.
What is the minimum age to take this course? 18 years of age.
